Papallacta is located in the Andes, east of Quito at over 3000 m above the sea level. The route invites you to enjoy the beautiful Andean landscapes and the renowned hot springs. Papallacta is located between the two volcanoes Cayambe and Antisana. This gives the water amazing hydrothermal properties. We pick you up at your hotel in the early morning and drive to our first destination: The highlands of Cayambe Coca National Park. We will enjoy of the landscapes of the area and if weather permits, we will go for a short walk in the Paramo region (Wetlands in the Andes, an ecosystem with grasslands). We will continue to the Andean cloud forest in Guango Reserve. This is a protected area which is focused on the conservation of one of the last remnants of Andean forest close to Quito. Here we will enjoy the beauty of the hummingbirds that occur in large numbers in this area. We continue to the hot springs to enjoy a relaxing moment in the therapeutic waters. Lunch is included in the program in the restaurant close to the hot springs.

How difficult are activities on this trip?

All the activities are from easy to moderate, however, this can be relative to how used to high altitude you are during some visits.

The highest point will be the “Antenas” in the Cayambe Coca Reserve, located at approximately at 4.300 meters high (17.760 feet high).

What kind of outfit do I need for this trip?

Temperature ranges during the day between 09 and 18 degrees Celsius, so dressing in warm clothes or in layers will be a good option. Wear comfortable hiking or walking shoes (if they are water proof will be much better). Do not forget the swimming suits for the hot springs.
During the rainy season (October through May) the Andes are cloudy and humid and it is recommended to bring rain gear.
